The Royal Sands is located along a stretch of the most spectacular white sand beach in all of Mexico. Recently we visited the newest phase of the Royal Sands which opened for Christmas week of 2001. This is the second and final phase of the Sands construction. Both buildings are connected together by multileveled walkways and share all amenities. The Sands is not adjoining the trio of sister resorts, the Royal Mayan, Caribbean and Islander, but transportation is provided by free shuttle buses to and from any of them. The effect is like you are staying at one mega resort with access to the features and amenities of all the other Royals. What can you expect to find at the Royal Sands? The resort consists of several hundred luxury 2 bedroom condominiums, all with 2 bathrooms, full American size kitchen, dining area, living room with two very comfortable fold down murphy type beds and each has a large ocean view terrace right outside of the double glass patio doors. The second bedroom locks off from the main suite, affording extra privacy for guests or relatives traveling with you. There are large walk-in closets. Construction is high quality with marble floors and solid noise-proof walls. You can expect all of the comforts of a fully furnished and stocked apartment including kitchen appliances, cookware and table service. The living room area and each bedroom has excellent individually controlled air conditioning. Tap water is fully purified and safe for drinking. Daily maid service is also provided to help you concentrate on your vacation and not worry about the daily chores. The resort is brand spanking new and in excellent condition. The employees who work here always provide great friendly service. Since opening the Royal Sands his has quickly become the number one TUG (Timeshare User's Group) rated resort.

The Royal Sands phase 2 is different from phase 1 in several ways. Phase 2 is smaller and more intimate than phase 1. As you can see in the photos, everything looks three-quarters size. We liked it a bit better than phase 1. It was a shorter walk to everything. The center area has more grass, trees and green space. The pools are smaller but there is less concrete and it is very visually appealing. There is a huge children's swimming pool which parents will love. Unlike phase I, there are true ground floor walk out villas. A small palapa restaurant sits near the beach and prepares hamburgers and other sandwiches. A swim up bar is also located here. There are stairs down to the beach. The beach here is excellent. Phase 2 will have its own check-in lobby to be located on the far north side of the resort. It will be very convenient to walk out here and over to the Kukulcan Mall right next door for shopping and dinner.

What else did we like about the Royal Sands? The Royals continue to make improvements. The murphy beds were very comfortable and much easier to fold down and take up in the morning than the former sofa beds. Each villa now comes equipped with the following amenities: VCR, remote control CD player and stereo, A full size iron and ironing board and variable speed ceiling fans in every room.
